When you create your brand, unless you start with a large amount of capital that allows you to afford talented collaborators, you have to be capable of doing everything. Yes! That’s just the way it is!
And in our world of communication, where media presence has the power, you need photos, lots of photos, tons of photos—beautiful, captivating, meaningful ones that tell a story, spark desire… in short…
If you don't have photos, you don't exist!
To overcome the harsh, dark months of winter, I invested last year in some photography lights, which cost me a pretty penny and whose limits I reached quite quickly because:
- Louise Carmen metallic leather notebooks are very difficult to photograph, especially with lights. Vittorio, my photo teacher, whom I call on—SOS-mayday-mayday-mayday—tells me the same thing every time, "you are attacking (he is Italian) the World Cup of photography, it's super difficult to photograph" yes, Vittorio, it's super difficult, and I'm happy on one hand that you recognize it, and on the other, I'm delighted to learn that it's not just because I'm not a super photographer that I struggle to photograph my notebooks with lights, but, well, Mr. Vittorio... I have no choice, I have to make it happen!
- for the website and the Instagram account, you need different atmospheres, places that make people dream and not just notebooks placed on a white background, and since I don't live in a 30-room castle with large windows and lots of different decor, I quickly exhausted the possibilities of my living room.
- in winter, in Paris, the first two points are compounded by a huge problem: there is no light. Unfortunately, to take beautiful photos, you also need beautiful light.
So, during one of our super early brainstorming-creative walks (5:15 in the morning, mind you!) in a sleeping Paris where Fabien, my partner/husband, and I were alone in the world, I posed my problem, and… bing! we found the solution:
What if we went to the sun?
Good heavens… why didn't we think of that before? It seems so obvious!
To be completely transparent, in the video, I spared you the part preceding the "bing!" which took a long time to arrive.
So, after thinking like crazy people, we cashed in our Flying Blue miles, found a charming riad with pretty wooden tables and a rooftop, packed our suitcases to fly off to Marrakech, eyes glued to the Weather Pro app and fingers crossed that the sun would be there.
You are one click away from embarking with me. Let's go! [video duration: 2:55]
