This is episode 4 of the little series I filmed with my mobile phone in Zanzibar.

It’s not a big production.

But I made it with simplicity and great pleasure.

For me, my travel journals are like fine wines.

They increase in value as the years go by.

This is perhaps the most "experimental" episode of the Zanzibar travel journal series.

When I travel in exotic countries, there are always plenty of flowers and leaves that I would like to include in my journal.

And I don’t really know how to do it.

But will they last over time?

I have no idea.

But I jumped in.

I had the experience of my very first travel journal in Guadeloupe.

I had taped a bunch of flowers inside.

6 years later, they are still there!

You will see them in the second part of the episode.

My 100% homemade travel journal

I think this is the first "real" journal I’ve made without giving up.

I put zero pressure on myself.

I think that’s part of the explanation.

I cut the cover of this journal from a cardboard box I had just received in the mail.

The inside consists of packaging, wallpaper sheets, and all sorts of knick-knacks sewn together.

You will see this journal in today's episode, as well as my collages of flowers and leaves.

The bonus in Guadeloupe

I think the very end of this video requires some explanation... It’s family archive footage.

It’s very... how should I put it... experimental.

I made it with a Lomokino. It’s the same technology as the first films by the Lumière brothers! They are photos taken on a film roll. I developed the film, then scanned the negatives of each photo and edited them into a video. Hence that very vintage and silent feel!

Here is your episode for the week!

Which journal do I use when traveling?

The journal I use for my road trips is the Louise Carmen Roadbook in chestnut vegetable-tanned leather.

I love it very much because its leather is fantastic. As the trips go by, it takes on a unique patina. It is very practical because it contains 3 independent paper notebooks: one for drawing, one for keeping a logbook, and a third for noting interesting addresses. Since each notebook is removable, I can swap them out.

You can insert your Moleskine© brand notebooks. They are the same size.

I have a passion for vegetable-tanned leather, which I have offered in quite a few colors.
